company INTRODUCTION
The SSBCI Loan Participation Program (LPP) helps Rhode Island businesses obtain financing to grow and expand, ultimately creating and retaining jobs in Rhode Island. By partnering with financial institutions, the program provides business loans at competitive terms while reducing the risk for the lender and giving borrowers attractive financing terms and lower down payments. The program is administered by RI Capital, an affiliate of BDC Capital.

$100,000 to $3,000,000.

Borrower Requirement:

Minimum 10% down payment.

Max. Total Loan Amount:

Cannot exceed $20 million between the bank or lender amount and RI Capital.

Participation Type:

Typically subordinated to the bank or lender in the event of default.

Maximum Participation:

50%, with most loans expected to fall in the 25% to 40% range.

Eligible Loan Purposes:

Any business purpose, including purchase or refinancing of owner-occupied commercial real estate, leasehold improvements, and equipment loans (stand-alone or with a real estate transaction).

Not Eligible:

Passive real estate and owner cash-out or dividends.

Maximum Loan Term:

25 years.

Interest Rates:

Competitively priced and mutually determined by RI Capital and the bank or lender.

Fees:

1% of the participated amount. Total fees (including bank or lender) not to exceed 3%. Borrower is responsible for all closing costs.

Personal Guaranty:

Typically all owners of 20% or more of the business must provide a personal guaranty.

Process and Documentation:

The bank or lender provides an approved credit memorandum for our underwriting and documents the closing. A standardized SSBCI participation agreement is used.

The borrower applies for a commercial loan through a participating Rhode Island bank or credit union.

Step 2:
Credit Memorandum and Submission

The lender provides an approved credit memorandum for our underwriting.

Step 3:
Participation Agreement

A standardized SSBCI participation agreement is used. Pricing is mutually determined.

Step 4:
Closing and Funding

The lender documents the closing and funds alongside RI Capital's participation.
